Beat Bullying

Spent the day today helping out a group of Tallisites working with primary school kids from the area at Charlton Football ground. We helped the kids make anti cyber bullying Voki’s which can all be viewed here. The group Mr. Searle and I worked with were really good and a credit to the school :)

Enrichment Fail

Despite my best intentions and a sound idea, my enrichment activity has fallen at the first hurdle. Out of the nearly 200 year 12 students that are taking part in enrichment this term, 1 student opted to do my activity! What was slightly depressing was that each student gets 3 options, a first, second and a third, yet even if you factor in those that wanted to do my activity as their second and third option we only get a grand total of… 1. In total. Only one.

Not one to be detered by such blatant snubbing, I have decided that the activity will instead begin after Christmas in the second term. This allows me to lay some ground work and be better prepared for the slew of students who will want to do my activity come January. I am hoping for at least a 500 % increase in responses. I will also take this extra bonus time I have gained to better promote the activity.

In other news, my Weebly site has Transformed (literally). I have decided to go in a slightly different direction in terms of layout and presentation so check it out!

Year 12 Induction Day

Today is the day that the new Year 12’s get their first taste of Tallis Sixth Form life. I only have a very tiny role in this and that is to talk to those interested in my Enrichment activity, Enrichment Bloggers.

So currently I am sat in the sports hall waiting for prospective students to come and ask me what it’s all about. The students get to choose which Enrichment activities they will be doing up until Christmas, on wednesday, so after then I should have an idea about how many students I will have to guide into the world of Weebly websites and Tumblr blogs :)

And so it begins…

Well today is Friday, which marks the first “official” day back at school for the staff. I haven’t done a huge amount to the site or the blog this week as other things have gotten in the way unfortunately.

One thing that may prove quite fun though is that I have been asked to run an Enrichment activity this year. Originally I was asked to run a Warhammer / Wargaming activity, but I felt that there may not be enough interest and that I already run pretty much the same thing as a club in school. Instead we’ve decided that it might be fun and interesting to run an activity where the kids can review and feedback about enrichment, as well as promote the various activities, throughthe use of a website and a blog. This allows me another way to put to use the skills I have gained through this process so far. What I am intending is a whole multi media internet based activity incorporating blogging, taking pictures, making videos and building a weebly site all based on Tallis Enrichment. It’s still very much in the “ideas in my head” stage and I will divulge more about this later!

September…

Well it would appear that it is the 1st of September already. Scant days remain until school begins and work starts “properly” (that said this is already my third week back lol).

Since my maddness induced need to play with my page on Saturday morning, I have managed to restrain myself and wait until today to do anyhting to it. Today I have discovered that for reasons best known by themselves, my hit counters have stopped working.

I have/had 2 types of hit counter on my page, one to measure actualy hits (the number of times the page was viewed or visited overall) and a unique visitors counter (only records visits from a unique IP address once). The reason for this is that every time I was viewing my page myself, even to work on it, it was counting that as a view. As I am quite interested to see how many many people actually look at my site, I now need to figure out why they have stopped working and fix it!

UPDATE! : The counters are working again now, but have unfortunatly reset as I had to re enter the code into the html boxes.

Updateness

Not a huge amount to report. For some strange reason I am sat in bed working on my site on my laptop. It is Saturday morning. I have no explanation for this, but I am a little afraid…

Anyway… like I said not a huge amount to report. I have added some rambling waffle to a few of my pages. I added some links to my Links section (and will add more later). I have thought a bit more about how I want the site to actually look and am working towards that a little bit more. Currently the site is more an explosion and is very rough, but that has more or less been the intention. As I am blogging most changes I make to the site, those that want to read my incesent waffle can see my site evolve as it goes. I even looked into saving earlier versions of my site so people can see how it has changed over time, but quickly gave up on that notion when I realised how much of a nightmare it would be!

Anyway, I hope nobody reads this until after the weekend. No really. Don’t you people have lives?
